beIN Sports loses the rights to La Liga, which is now broadcast on DAZN and Disney

A minor earthquake has shaken the world of television rights: La Liga will no longer be broadcast on beIN Sports tv this fall, the head of the Spanish league, Javier Tebas, has announced to Le Monde. Disney+ and DAZN is going to take over the broadcasting rights for the championship.

The end of a 14-year adventure. Having held the television rights to La Liga continuously since its was launch in France in 2012, beIN Sports will cease transmitting the Spanish Championship this fall. The head of the Spanish League La Liga, Javier Tebas, has announced in the interview with Le Monde that La Liga will now be transmitting on DAZN and Disney+. The contract with Qatari channel was expiring, and the two platforms will each have 100% of the equal rights and therefore not share the matches between them.

The time had come to open a new chapter ,” Tebas told the newspaper today. Disney+ and DAZN presented us with an aspiring vision, combining a large audience with sincere expertise in sports. The executive acknowledged a shift in approach toward streaming, “which has become a natural way for millions of people to devour content … We see it as an opportunity to reach more fans and others, not a risk of losing them.”

beIN Sports has thus relinquished another major transmitting right in its catalog, a right embodied for over a decade by the indispensable duo of Benjamin Da Silva and Omar da Fonseca. This loss comes just weeks after the loss of its Saturday afternoon Ligue 1 match and two years after selling the Serie A rights and also acquired by DAZN starting in the summer of 2025. Among the major football competitions in the world, the Qatari channel retains “only” the Bundesliga, the Coupe de France, and Ligue 2.

Running a television channel isn’t like the transfer market, where you gain or lose your best players to another club. It’s about economic logic, knowing our customers and their viewing habits ,” a source at beIN Sports commented and said. “We have the necessary rights, at the right price, and with the right partners. We had an exceptional 2026 World Cup, and with other important rights are on the way. We have a long-term business plan and a solid partnership with Canal+. LaLiga has now chosen to split its rights between the two transmitting. One has already failed after just one season with Ligue 1. The other remains virtually invisible in the French market.”
