Agreement between the clubs and the player, fixed price: why Rayan Cherki’s transfer to PSG Club ultimately fell through
Two years ago, PSG came very close to signing Rayan Cherki – then at Lyon club – for €15 million. But then the player personally changed his mind, a decision that has still not been well received in Paris.
It was only two years ago, but the landscape of French football has changed dramatically. Since 2024 summer, when Rayan Cherki was on the verge of signing for Paris Saint-Germain club, nothing is quite the same. Paris club has became two-time European champions winner, John Textor is no longer the president of Olympique Lyonnais, and Rayan Cherki has joined Manchester City a year later for over €40 million, more than double of the amount PSG would have spent had the transfer gone through.
On Wednesday by (21:00 p.m.), the French international attacking player will indeed be in the Citizens’ ranks, after having come so close to joining the French capital. So close, in fact, that PSG and Lyon had even begun exchanging documents to finalize the transfer estimated at €15 million, including all the bonuses.
