Coach Zinedine Zidane, a variable salary for the French national team
Like his predecessor Didier Deschamps, the French national team coach Zinedine Zidane has receives his fixed salary of 300,000 euros gross per month. However, he has given up image rights bonuses, while receiving greater compensation during major game tournaments.
Since his appointment, Coach Zinedine Zidane has cultivated a deliberate difference from Didier Deschamps, his former teammate on the French national team and at Juventus club. This difference is evident in his tactical approach, but also in the details of his salary, which is similar to that of his predecessor, but with variations primarily due to his status as an international icon.
In terms of salary, Zidane has followed in Deschamps’ footsteps, with a fixed salary of €300,000 gross per month, contrary to some rumors that suggested he had very high demands. Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation nation wide (FFF), had no intention of going overboard anyway, convinced that the former number 10 of Les Bleus, who had earned a very good living at club level, wouldn’t make money the issue.
In discussions with the head of the Federation, the question of coach Zidane’s compensation structure quickly arose. Because in the French national team, the coach, like the players, receives personal rights bonuses for each match played by the national team. This is to compensate for commercial agreements with the numerous sponsors associated with Les Bleus.
The amount allocated to each player both (starters and substitutes) for each match is approximately €22,000, and the coach receives two shares, or double that. With Zidane’s arrival, this system was abandoned, but the new coach (unlike the players) no longer receiving this personal rights bonus. This obviously cost Zidane money, but it also simplified things somewhat for him. It seems he didn’t want any constraints with sponsors, as he himself was associated with numerous brands. And not necessarily those of the French national team, such as Adidas, for example, the competitor of Nike, the team kit supplier.
