Mont Ventoux, a new climb on the women’s Tour de France… but not unknown to women’s cycling
For the first time in the world, the women’s Tour de France with Zwift will tackle the legendary, scorching slopes of Mont Ventoux, the finish line of Friday’s 7th stage. A new conquest for women’s cycling, that even if other races have already ventured there.
In the year 1987 July 19, while Jean-François Bernard was off to claim a legendary victory on the Mont Ventoux, the women’s Tour de France time trial was relocated 150 kilometers further north, between Corrençon-en-Vercors and Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte. With the previous stage, the women had finished at the same end line as the men, in Avignon, which they were due to meet them there again on the next day, in Villard-de-Lans.
