Led by a doubly decisive Rabiot, AC Milan made a successful start under Amorim
The Portuguese team manager put in a fine game performance at Torino (2-1). Adrien Rabiot was doubly decisive, scoring a goal and providing an assist in ten minutes game.
Ruben Amorim made a successful debut. Sacked like a pariah by Manchester United management in early 2026, the Portuguese coach bounced back this summer at AC Milan, which his team delivered a fine performance away to Torino. How far removed it was from the minimalist and bland pattern of the economical Max Allegri, who left for Napoli! Pressing, counter-pressing, wing-backs on fire, especially Samuel Chukwueze a Nigerian on the right flank, and 74% possession (!) in the first half time: we’ve already seen many of the ingredients of the Amorim recipe.
After a period of sterile dominance, and with a courageous but typically quiet start from Gonçalo Ramos, young Alphadjo Cissé spontaneously opened the goal scoring (64th minute), making amends for some questionable decisions in the first half. A product of the Hellas Verona youth academy, he was still playing in Serie B last season competition. Then a familiar face, albeit a late return from vacation, appeared at the far post to convert a Chukwueze cross (66th minute time) and double the lead: none other than Adrien Rabiot. Not yet at 100%, the 31-year-old French international player came on at the start of the second half time, along with Luka Modric (56th minute), replacing the disappointing pairing of Yunus Musah and Ardon Jashari (whose playing performance is expected to be a highlight this year). The two veterans brought a refreshing technical edge to an otherwise intense starting lineup.
Ignazio Abate’s Torino, the former Milan player, only really came alive at the end of the game, when their opponents team eased off the pressure a little, going down with 2-0. Swedish left winger player Alieu Njie hit Mike Maignan’s post (74th minute) before delivering a perfect outside-of-the-boot pass to former Toulouse player Zakaria Aboukhlal, who was wasteful (84th minute). With a stunning flick, Che Adams scored a sublime goal just seconds before the final whistle of the match, but to no avail (90+3). Amorim banished Manchester United’s demons.
