For much of the race, the favorites for the overall win numbered around fifteen in the leading group race. The gap never dipped below a minute, and the win ultimately came down to a sprint finish. Walscheid edged out Alessio Magagnotti and Danny Van Poppel, both Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe riders, across the battle line.
Vacek retains the yellow jersey
Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) who finished 7th in this third stage, with the same time as the day’s winner. This was enough for him to retain his yellow jersey back, which he holds with a 39-second lead over Max Walscheid and 1 minute 6 seconds over Axel Van der Tuuk (Euskaltel-Euskadi).
