Rio Mavuba is no longer the coach of Girondins de Bordeaux

Girondins de Bordeaux has been announced on Thursday at midday the departure of their coach, Rio Mavuba, who had extended his contract at the beginning of July. While the club is still unsure if it will be reinstated in National 1, Arnaud Cormier will serve as interim team coach.

Another coaching change at Bordeaux. The club has announced on Thursday the mutually agreed departure of their team coach, Rio Mavuba. The former international midfielder player (13 caps) had taken over the first team in March 2026, following the departure of Bruno Irles, and had achieved good results (6 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss) but missed out on promotion to Ligue 3. He had, however, extended his contract on July 8th . Which he reportedly informed the club’s management of his desire to leave after the friendly match against Aviron Bayonnais (1-2) in Hagetmau last Friday. This departure comes on the eve of the friendly against FC Bassin Arcachon, which will to be played behind closed doors at Haillan, at 11:00 AM. In a statement published on his X account, Mavuba explained: “The situation is very unusual; Bur i  hope that the governing bodies will confirm our place in the National league, and that the club can quickly return to the top level in the league.”
