After five seasons play at AS Roma, Stephan El Shaarawy, a free agent, signed with Genoa, his boyhood club, on Wednesday. At 33 years, the Italian international returns to the team where he began his football professional career in 2008-2009.
Eighteen years after first stepping onto a professional pitch in his colors, Stephan El Shaarawy makes his grand return to Genoa. A free transfer agent after five seasons with AS Roma , the 33-years-old Italian striker signed on Wednesday with the club where he started his footballing career.
Born in Savona and trained at Genoa, where he made his debut in the 2008-2009 competition season, El Shaarawy has since played across Europe and Asia, including stints at Padova, AC Milan, Monaco, Shanghai Shenhua, and Roma. With the Roman club, he made 210 match appearances during his second spell, winning a Conference League title in the year 2022.
