Arthur Fils faces American Martin Damm in the first round of qualifying for the Tokyo ATP 500
Present in the Tokyo ATP 500 qualifying draw due to the administrative error, Arthur Fils will face American Martin Damm, ranked number 106th in the world record, in the first round on Monday.
Arthur Fils is indeed part of the ATP 500 qualifying draw. Forced to go through qualifying due to an administrative error, Fils, currently ranked the number 11th in the world record and projected to be 9th on Monday, now knows his fate. The 22-year-old Frenchman, the top seed, will begin his week on Monday against Martin Damm who is (ranked 106th).
A powerful 22-year-old left-hander and with an excellent serve, the American first came to prominence in the month of February by reaching the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier. He hasn’t quite replicated that performance since. However, he did briefly break into the top 100 during the summer, notably winning Daniil Medvedev in Winston-Salem.
