A special livery for the Monza GP race safety car in homage to Lightning McQueen, character from “Cars”
As part of its partnership with Disney, Formula 1 announced today Thursday that it will pay tribute to the film “Cars” at the Monza Grand Prix. The safety car will sport at a special livery, featuring the colors of the character Lightning McQueen.
The multiple Piston Cup winner champion Lightning McQueen will make an appearance in Formula 1. The character from the Pixar animated film “Cars” – which is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will be honored at the Monza Grand Prix, as part of the partnership between F1 and Disney to broaden the audience for motorsport race. He will make “a special appearance during the race weekend, including a lap of honor ,” and will be featured in a special livery for the safety car.
The partnership between Formula 1 and Disney was signed in the year 2025 and recently extended until 2028. Its aim is to rejuvenate the audience of Grand Prix races and is part of F1’s strategy “to move beyond the world of sport and reach a wider audience around the world,” as explained by F1’s commercial director Emily Prazer at the time of its signing.
