Meissner’s gem wasn’t enough; Bayern advance to the round of 32 of the German Cup by eliminating Osnabrück.
After conceding an exceptional goal to Robin Meissner, the Bayern Munich club quickly regained control to defeat Osnabrück, a second-division side, with 4-1 win on Wednesday in the German Cup round of 32. The defending champions, as they are in the Bundesliga, dominated the match after being caught off guard early on.
There was a thrill, then the demonstration play. After winning his duel against Jonathan Tah, Robin Meissner followed up with a 25-meter volley that ensconced into the top corner past the rooted Jonas Urbig in (5 minute). For a fleeting moment time, Osnabrück believed they could pull off an upset. Bayern, however, had other plans, comfortably advancing to the Round of 32 match of the German Cup (4-1) win.
Bayern Munich left no room for doubt. Played through by Joshua Kimmich, Harry Kane team capitalized on a clumsy clearance in the box to equalize the goal from close range (18 minute). Six minutes later, Michael Olise found Luis Diaz with a subtle pass behind the defense. Alone at the penalty kick spot, the Colombian’s initial shot was saved by Jonas Krumrey, but Tom Bischof was on hand to give Bayern the lead (24 minute).
With several key players, as well as summer signings Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, in the team starting lineup, the German champions then completely took control of the game. Under pressure, Osnabrück no longer really troubled Urbig, while Kane squandered a few chances before finally score his second goal from the penalty spot (85 minute). In the meantime, Olise had already ended any suspense by chipping the ball over Krumrey at (73 minute).
